Literature of the Late 19th Century

I really didn't like his poetry, or The Open Boat. I though they were very hard to read and follow. His poems were very angry poems. Doubtful of God and showing anger towards him. All of his works seemed to have a conflict in them. Conflicts with others, conflicts within oneself, conflicts with God. He doesn't seem like a happy up-beat kinda guy. A lot of his stuff had an ocean theme to it as well. Which, I didn't really get into. I didn't like him. Something about his writing I just didn't dig.
